History
PianoDrumsGuitar had its official start in 2007 with the purchase of the domain name.
Here is a word from its founder:
"My name is Jay Sandifer. I like teaching. When I was younger, I thought about being a fireman or a policeman, but never a teacher. As I grew I imagined being a musician, but started making plans to become an architect by attending The Savannah College of Art & Design. The thought never crossed my mind that I would become a teacher. Honestly, I never imagined becoming a teacher until I was 26 years old.
In 1997 I was 26 years old and single. At that time, I moved from Savannah GA to Stevens Point, WI. I was offered a part-time position teaching art and music classes at Stevens Point Christian Academy. I also began teaching piano, drum, and guitar lessons on the side to supplement my income. I discovered that teaching was very fulfilling for me. I also discovered that it was rewarding to make extra money doing something I really loved!
I read the book Driven by Eternity by John Bevere. After reading this book, I realized I had a responsibility in life ...something I would need to give account for. Personal passion and vision came into a much clearer view.
In 2006, after a few years of full-time ministry, I decided to get 'out of the boat' and start 'walking on the water'.
With the help of my wife Sherry, I started getting the word out about music lessons and began adding students to individual and group lessons and programs. I also started offering spirit-led ministry times in assisted living and nursing homes.
Prompted by a dream that others were most impacted by my teaching and instruction, I built a home studio that included digital piano and keyboard, electric and acoustic guitars, amps, a drum kit, and several percussion and hand drums. I even added some basic recording software. I also began traveling to the homes of students in order to help offer convenience to busy parents.
In 2011, I incorporated PianoDrumsGuitar by including it as one of the educational programs of The Worship Arts INC, a 501C3 nonprofit organization that I founded on a dream to teach, mentor, and lead other worshippers in the area of fine arts and ministry. I began to establish a music mentoring program at this time as well as a scholarship fund for parents needing assistance in the area of music education, including private and group lessons.
During this time the PDG studio hosted several original faith-based and culturally relevant themed productions featuring the teachers, instructors, and students of PDG. These productions were a fabulous way to bring awareness of social injustices into the community. These productions consisted of original and modified arrangements of scripts, monologues, dialogues, dramatizations, and original music compositions. This series of mini-productions was a glorified recital of sorts. They were widely appreciated by students, parents, and the community.
At the same time as my student base grew, my wife started her own business in 2011. She asked for my help. I asked some of my musician friends if they would be willing to help me teach so I could devote time to helping my wife with her business for the next 5 years.
In 2015, I moved my family to Central FL. I took about a more than three-year break from teaching music lessons. Eventually, the studio dwindled to less than 10 students. The 501c3 became inactive.
I left my Wisconsin students in the hands of a few instructors who were willing to support the unique vision of PDG. I am grateful for them and continue to provide instruction and music lesson opportunities for them as best fit their schedule.
In the summer of 2017, while living in Winter Park, FL, I again began looking for music students. I found a few new students and the spark to teach music was rekindled.
In the Spring of 2017, I accepted a part-time position as a contemporary music minister at Saint Barnabas, a historic Episcopal Church in DeLand. While in DeLand, I continued my search for music students in DeLand. I continue to teach music in DeLand.
Towards the end of 2017, I relocated my family to Ormond Beach, FL. Today, I continue my search for music students by providing lessons in Daytona, Ormond, and Volusia County.
In November of 2021, the ministry of the Worship Arts was reignited in the state of Florida."
